Happy Pets: Guess the Toy Story characters in this new Limited Edition series

Following the recent trend in Happy Aquarium, it's a given that Crowdstar loves Disney and can only be expected to churn out more bootleg versions of Disney's characters due to the brand's broad appeal. This strategy must be pretty successful too, and when timed to a film release, the results can only be positive. In this latest pet set from Happy Pets, Crowdstar have ordered in six new Limited Edition premium pets, along with three props, all to tie into Pixar's and Disney's upcoming Toy Story 3 movie.
Happy Pets Toy Story Pets
Three of the six new pets cost 90 Facebook Credits, or $9 USD each -- Cowboy Cat, Space Ranger Cat, and Alien Guinea Pig. The next two are a bit plainer, and go for 80 FB Credits, or $8 USD, each -- Spring Dog and Cowboy Horse. Last one is the Bacon Pig, going for 70 FB Credits, or $7 USD. So what's so special about the last three to warrant the $7-8 price tags? Well, the Catzilla Cats series introduced various pet sizes (size comparison chart included) as breedable traits, and all the pets in this set are half-sized.

Can you guess who's who in the Toy Series? Get the answers below!

Clicking the following links will lead you to the Toy Story characters that inspired each pet:

FarmVille for iPhone gets the Twitterverse in a tizzy

Today, Zynga announced FarmVille for iPhone will be arriving at the end of June. While that's good news for some, the Twitterverse was -- to put it mildly -- less than enthralled. Everyone from fellow tech journalists to the average Joe Twitterer seemed to have something negative to say about the union between FarmVille and iPhone. Here are just a few of many examples below:

We can understand that people who don't play FarmVille are tired of getting spammed with requests on their Facebook pages (you know those can be turned off, right?) and don't want the same to happen on iPhone. Those of us who play FarmVille don't like spamming non-players either. But does an otherwise relaxing casual game where you plant and harvest seeds deserve this kind of response? Like it or not, we will be the first online when FV for iPhone debuts in the App Store later this month.

Tiki Resort: Free Shoe Charm has fans asking "Which Shoes Did You Get?"

Tiki Resort's newest charm can't be bought from the store or sent via the gifts page. It can only be picked up for free from the game's official Facebook fanpage. The Shoe Charm is an unreleased item and being offered exclusively to fans who click here.

Using the Shoe Charm grants you 100 XP and one of three decorative shoe collectibles. After dropping the charm into the volcano to activate it, one pair of Red-Sole Pumps were left on my resort island. If I choose to, those Pumps could be sold to gain me 4,000 Coins.

Happy Aquarium envisions underwater soccer played by lion cubs

Happy Aquarium's Zack the Soccer-playing Lion
To go along with their World Cup 2010 wallpapers, Happy Aquarium has decided to bring in a "Soccer-playing lion" cub. Say what? Yeah, you read that right.

Happy Aquarium Soccer BallAnd to continue with their Disney obsession, the new "Zack, the Lion", looks very much like the lion cubs from Disney's 1994 film, The Lion King. Zack, in particular, looks like Nala, but with Simba's coloring. But Zack has been done up with spiky, wild blue hair, a red scuba breathing apparatus, a white shirt and blue gym shorts. Oh, and he carries a soccer ball with the promise of some "pretty fancy footwork when you click on him in your tank!"

You can buy him under the Tank Mates section of the in-game store for 58 Pearls or 48 Facebook Credits ($4.80 USD). And for those who can't shell out the money, Zack's Soccer Ball can be gotten for free under the game's gifts page.

Treasure Isle flags return in time for Fourth of July

Just when you thought Treasure Isle was going to completely miss out on Independence day and fail to release a single Fourth of July themed item, flags from nations all over the world were re-released.

You may be wondering what international flags have to do with Independence Day and I'll admit: not much. Treasure Isle isn't the only game to do a mediocre job of releasing Fourth of July themed goods. Especially in comparison to the games that did a great job.

However, included in the selection is our own American Flag, standing proud and strong. So perhaps this Fourth of July you'll stand it tall upon your patch of land planted amid the vast Treasure Isle ocean.

Continue reading to see all the flags released and purchasable in Treasure Isle.

Unfortunately, the dearth of Fourth of July themed items wasn't Treasure Isle's only shortcoming. They also are charging fairly hefty fees of Island Cash for each flag, 12 to be precise. Nonetheless, the flags can be found in the store under decorations. Click the flags button to see them all. So head over to Treasure Isle and check out the patriotic flags here in time for Fourth of July.

FrontierVille Independence Day Collection rings in the holiday weekend

UPDATE (7/3): List of items now includes how to find each of them.

Just in case you weren't aware that there's a big holiday in the US this weekend, FrontierVille sets out to remind everyone with a virtual celebration that includes new limited edition items in the Market and a new collection of "secret" 4th of July Collectibles. OK, so they're not that big of a secret, you can find out what the items are by looking in your Collections list, and here they are:

farmville independence day collection

The collection consists of the following:

Tricorne Hat (collect bonus, or complete buildings)
    Cannonball (tend chickens)
Snare Drum (clobber snakes, bears, foxes, groundhogs)
Powder Horn (tend oak and pine trees)
    Tea Crate (clear grass)

Once you've collected all of these items, then you get a free Liberty Bell.

A slew of very patriotic cherry trees and fireworks have appeared in the Market as well. More on that HERE.

Did you get the Liberty Bell yet? Have any good advice on how to get these Independence Day items fast?

FrontierVille Liberty Cherry trees available for limited time

For the Fourth of July holiday, FrontierVille rolls out a few limited edition items, which includes four varieties (red, green, white and blue) of Liberty Cherry trees. Each tree costs 15 horseshoes ($2).

FrontierVille celebrates Independence Day with Firecracker, Liberty Cannon

FrontierVille rolls out the Liberty Cannon and a Firecracker to celebrate Independence Day in the US. The Firecracker costs 1,000 coins, and will yield 76 XP once purchased. The Cannon costs 76 Lucky Horseshoes (roughly $9), and yields 476 XP once purchased. I'll probably buy the Firecracker, but skip the overpriced Cannon for now.

FrontierVille Manure Collection: Hunt poo for a big reward

FrontierVille added something new for you to collect in the game -- manure. You can find all of the, uh, varietals while harvesting animals. Once you've completed the collection, you get a single Saltpeter for future use.

The five poo varietals (and how to find them) include:

Poultry Puddin' (harvested from chickens, geese)
Piggy Poop (harvested from pigs)
Brush Brownie (harvested from sheep, goats)
Prarie Pile (harvested from mules, horses)
Meadow Muffin (harvested from cows, oxen)

Once you trade these in you'll get a Saltpeter (you'll need this to make fireworks!), which looks like this:

Happy hunting!

PetVille Backwards Caption Contest: It's your pets' turn to fill in the blanks

PetVille Reverse Caption Contest Example
Contests in Zynga's social games are a dime a dozen these days, but now it wants you to try something completely different in PetVille. The PetVille community team is taking the traditional caption contest and putting it on it's head with their Backwards Caption Contest.

Running now until September 16, your mission is to take this caption: "Well, do you know what rats spell backward? STAR!!!!!!," and use your pets and any other items you might have to illustrate the scene. The grand prize winner will receive the item of their choice from the game.

The PetVille Community Team will choose their ten favorite screen shots and post them to the game's forums for the players to decide who wins. Check out the forum post for official rules and good luck! Anything goes with this one folks, so let your creativity shine (in the goofiest way possible, of course).

FarmVille 'Stats' bar makes it easier keep tabs on achievements

Did you happen to notice the new 'Stats' icon that appears underneath your FarmVille farm's name? My FarmVille buddy/co-worker Sharon pointed it out to me this week. If you haven't seen it yet, look in the upper right-hand corner of the screen while on your farm -- and you should see a little brown button that says 'Stats' on it and three blue lines that kind of look like the signal reception bars on a cell phone.

After you find the icon, click on it. A small menu will drop down and will let you know just how much you have achieved in FarmVille so far.

farmville stats menu

This bar lists your stats for the following:

    Your level
    Achievement Ribbons
    Crop Masteries
    Co-op Farming Medals
    Collections Completed
    Constructed Buildings

Right now, you can only see your stats on your farm, but if you go to a neighbor's farm, you will not be able to view their stats. While I always love a good stats bar, it would be great to be able to share it with others, with the intent to spark up a little friendly competition with my fellow virtual farmers.

Mafia Wars Super Pignata: New free gift with more (mostly) sweet loot

First, Mafia Wars introduced us to the Pignata and, now, the Super Pignata. This masked pinata contains a mystery gift and can be sent as a free gift to your mafia. You can only accept five (5) Super Pignatas per day and the one you'll want to get is the one holding the rare Gray Wolf with some fairly impressive stats: 127 Attack, 94 Defense.

Take a look at what these paper piggies have hiding inside (see the full loot list after the jump):

Mafia Wars free property upgrade -- less than 24 hours to claim your free boost

As promised, Mafia Wars rolled out the free property upgrade this weekend, so that means you have about, oh, 24 hours or so to claim this freebie. You can use this one time on any property that is upgradeable and it will upgrade the property one level. Some players seem to think this is a rip-off, but I'll take any help I can get.

When you upgrade, you'll obviously want to choose to upgrade whichever property will give you the biggest payout. I chose to upgrade my Las Vegas casino restaurant because that upgrade would pay the most of my existing Sin City buildings. Though another sound choice would be to use this on the Chop Shop and Weapons Shop in New York.

Another note: When you upgrade the property, your existing building materials will stay put. So if you had, say, 2/6 Steel Girders before you upgraded your restaurant, you will still have 2/6 Steel Girders after the upgrade as well.

Happy Aquarium creator CrowdStar plans to take its games mobile

In a recent press release, it was announced that CrowdStar's recent explosive growth has led the studio to release two of its games, Happy Aquarium and Happy Island, on Yahoo! Japan through DeNA's Mobage platform. Recently, CrowdStar encroached on the coveted Number 2 position as most popular Facebook developer under the almighty Zynga.

This is a pretty impressive feat considering CrowdStar, a largely independent studio with backing from the YouWeb entrepreneur platform, beat out both Playfish and Playdom for the position, backed by Electronic Arts and Disney, respectively. The company plans to release several more Facebook games by the end of 2010 and continue to hire more team members.

"CrowdStar has its foot on the gas -- we're aggressively scaling the company to build on all the momentum we gained this summer," said Niren Hiro, CEO of CrowdStar. "We're prepared to go to the next level."

Apparently, the next level for CrowdStar is in your pocket as the developer released a bullet list of plans for the future which includes, "Upcoming launches of mobile versions of all its Facebook games through YouWeb-incubator partnerships." Hopefully this means mobile versions of CrowdStar games similar to Zynga's FarmVille for iPhone, which recreates your actual Facebook farm within the mobile app.

While the developer is reporting record growth and shows no signs of stopping with hires aplenty, CrowdStar is going to need some truly new game ideas if it hopes to compete with Zynga much less maintain its Number 2 spot. Especially considering Zynga seems to have caught on to the idea of new game mechanics; it should be an interesting winter.

Treasure Isle Tigers: Heal the big cat to unlock Little Big China maps

treasure isle tigers
Still working on your Dragon adventures in Treasure Isle? Well, once you return from Timeless China, you'll be greeted by another ailing majestic animal, the Tiger, who can take you to the Little Big China maps if you decide to take the thorn from its paw. (Seriously, how many "Chinas" are there in Treasure Isle?)

This not-so-ferocious beast will find its way onto your home island through either a pop-up message or inside your backpack (hey, how'd he get in there?!). Place him on your home island to start the quest to bring the Tiger back to good health, which can be done by asking six of your friends, paying 30 Island Cash ( to instantly nurse him or waiting six days for the daily help to arrive from local, in-game characters.

After enlisting their help, or paying your way through, most of the islands in the Little Big China map will open up to you, with further help from your friends required to unlock the rest. These islands can be found just after the Timeless in China map. With the way this injured, mystical animals trend is going, we call unicorns next ... or maybe centaurs. Now, that would be awesome.

FarmVille Thanksgiving is already on the way

    farmville thanksgiving     farmville thanksgiving
Although Halloween just ended, Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away. FarmVille is already preparing awesome new stuff to celebrate the occasion. That's the best part about Facebook games during the holiday season, it's not-stop updates, items, and special promotions. Definitely better than the boring summer months.
farmville thanksgiving     farmville thanksgiving     farmville thanksgiving
I stumbled upon a few unreleased FarmVille Thanksgiving items today. In addition to a turkey costume and three turkey sweaters, FarmVille seems to be planning a Thanksgiving table feature. It looks as though people will have to gift you supplies to build up your Thanksgiving dinner. Just thinking about that feast is making me hungry already.

Check back in with the blog for more Thanksgiving stuff as we move closer to the holiday.

Restaurant City Wizard School items to conjure magical cafes Thursday

Wizard School
Though Halloween is officially over, that doesn't mean our games have to be any less magical. Playfish is set to introduce the new Wizard School set of items to Restaurant City this Thursday. This new theme is sure to transform your restaurant into an enchanted eatery in no time with outdoor and indoor decorations. Let the Magic Broom, which will replace your janitorial staff, do the cleaning for you. O Mirror of Gluttony, an item that will generate 1,500 coins every four hours for two and a half days before it breaks from reflecting so many overindulgent customers. (Is Playfish trying to say something here?)

Frankly, the Wizard School theme is clearly biting off inspired by the Harry Potter series. Especially considering this set of items comes just in time for the November release of the seventh film based on the infamous novels. You'll also find decorations like Harry Butter and Ham-oniony (who comes up with this stuff?) as well. But Playfish knows what you really want: the recipes. So, this week both Chocolate Toads (sound familiar?) and Butternut Squash will be added to the game. But this is just scratching the surface of what's to be introduced tomorrow, so take a look at the full list on the Restaurant City Blog and brush up on your spell book for when this new theme lands tomorrow.

Pet Society Giveaway: Win a cute free T-Shirt

Update: This contest has ended. Head to Blog.Games.com or our Facebook fanpage for more awesome giveaways.

You made it through the Halloween weekend and you're already halfway through the week. Because you've been doing such a good job, I've decided to do a little Pet Society free T-Shirt giveaway.

In the past when we've given away t-shirts, an overwhelming amount of people have responded. So we made sure to have more than one prize this time around. Today, we're giving away two cute Pet Society T-Shirts.

Continue reading to enter to win pet society giveaway

The two gray Pet Society T-Shirts come as a Women's Small size, making them perfect for a child, or a petite Pet Society player. On the front of the shirt is a little blue Pet Society pet with a big red nose, big ears, a viking helmet, and a tuft of green fur on his forehead. That little guy sure looks pleased about something.

What's also great about the shirt is that it doesn't say Pet Society anywhere on it, so only those who play the game will be able to fully appreciate it. To outsiders, this shirt will just look cute and quirky. It'll be like a little inside joke.

So how can you enter to win? Follow the directions below.

To enter:

Step 1: Go to the Games.com Facebook fanpage: (http://www.facebook.com/gamescom).

Step 2: 'Like' the fanpage so you can see the latest Facebook game news, tips, and cheats.

Step 3: Enter the giveaway by heading to the fanpage and leave a comment telling us a bit about your pets in the real world. Do you have a cat or a dog? Or perhaps something more exotic? What are their names? What made you choose your pet? Did you base your Pet Society pet on your real-life pet? If you don't have a pet, why not?

(I have two cats: Jim and Bob II. I also have a dog named Trixy. I'll be honest, I prefer manly dogs, and Trixy is a poodle thing, which is a bit questionable. Jim and Bob are awesome though. They kill birds and pests, lounge around, and are really friendly. We love them all, they're part of the family.)

After a few days, we'll randomly select two winners, message them on Facebook for their addresses, and send them their free Pet Society T-Shirts. Sound easy enough?

Get started by heading to the Games.com fanpage to enter for the free Pet Society T-Shirts.

Dragon Age Legends on Facebook: BioWare's epic role-player goes social

Dragon Age, Bioware's popular role-playing game available on PC and game consoles will be making its way onto Facebook in the form of Dragon Age Legends. You will return to Theadas and save a viscount's son while battling demons and darkspawn.

OK, so it all kind of sounds like the lyrics from a Tenacious D song, but if this social game is anything like it's bigger brothers, it'll keep you engrossed for hours on end. Here's hoping anyway. Playing this game will also unlock items in Dragon Age II, which is set to arrive in stores in March 2011.

EA 2D General Manager Mark Spenner says their goal is to use Dragon Age Legends to raise the 'quality bar' in social games. "Dragon Age Legends will deliver a deep, sophisticated experience, and we will continue to delight gamers by adding new features and content far into the future," he says.

Dragon Age Legends will also give players a taste of the Free Marches, which will be the main setting in Dragon Age II, and it will have a 'gratifying' character customization options. Players will take on quests, earn loot and play the game with their fellow Facebook friends.

These details are a little vague, but if you're interested in being one of the first to get involved, you can sign up to be part of the game's January beta here.

Bejeweled Blitz Fan Appreciation Days: Black Friday in disguise

Fan Appreciation Day
If you can keep your filthy cursor off of those shiny gems for just a minute (it's addictive, we know), you would notice that PopCap has decided to honor its Bejeweled Blitz fans by having Happy Hour all weekend starting today. Coincidentally (right...), today also happens to be the most insane shopping day of the year, Black Friday. With that, we're going to call this weekend's deals Black Friday in disguise.

Sign in today and you'll be treated to amazing deals on coins. Every coin package is half-off all day long, which means you get coins for:

    200,000 coins: 15 Facebook Credits ($1.50)
    500,000 coins: 30 Facebook Credits ($3)
    1,000,000 coins: 45 Facebook Credits ($4.50)

On top of insanely low prices on huge amounts of coins, every purchase comes with a free 2x point multiplier. It looks like scores are going to soar this weekend and on the cheap at that.

Cafe World Thanksgiving Extravaganza: Black Friday in a turkey suit

Thanksgiving Extravaganza
Why certain games aren't just coming out and saying "Black Friday" is beyond us, but at least the sales are there. Like in Cafe World's Thanksgiving Extravaganza (not to be confused with the Catering Order), where players will enjoy deep discounts on coins and Cafe Cash packages. For just another 15 hours as of this writing, all Cafe Cash packages are 20 percent off with coin packages up to half off the original price. Here's what you'll find on the cheap today:

Cafe Cash Discounts (20 percent off):
-25 Cafe Cash: $4

-120 Cafe Cash: $16
-350 Cafe Cash: $40

-1,700,000 coins: $100 (50 percent off)

For this little cash, you could deck your cafe in enough themed gear to turn it into a fun land or, rather a Wonder World. Still on the fence about buying virtual goods? You have another 14 hours to decide, so get to thinking.

Happy Aquarium Black Friday Sale begins 10 a.m. PST

CrowdStar has been preparing for this day for a long time, gathering just the right sales for this fine Black Friday. Today starting at 10 a.m. PST (1 p.m. EST) in Happy Aquarium, all critters will be 40 percent off for just three hours. On top of that, all wallpapers, gravel and tankmates are 15 to 30 percent off. Feeders and cleaners are 15 percent off with all Potions to be reduced by 40 percent. Oh, and those sales are good all day long. So, don't fret if you can't make it for the big event--you'll save one way or another this Nov. 26.

Better yet, the first 100 players who log in at 10 a.m. sharp (PST, of course) will be rewarded with the exclusive Black CrowdStar-Fish. According to the official CrowdStar event page, there are over six thousand players waiting for that item. So, expect stiff competition for a item that's so limited. I know my trigger finger is ready, but what about you?

PetVille Black Friday Sale gets rid of those Turkey leftovers

PetVille Black Friday
Yes, the craziest shopping day of the year has your pets all riled up too, so Zynga launched a Black Friday Sale in PetVille to keep the little animals happy. However, there were simply too many uncooked (i.e. living) turkeys running around, so the pets decided to sell them at discount... as machines. OK, that last part is made up, but more interesting nonetheless. (Suspend your disbelief, people.) Here are the leftovers you can pick up starting today only:

Mitchell the Relaxed Turkey (today only): 46 Pet Cash (around $4)
Mechanical Turkeys Running From Pilgrim (today only): 24 Pet Cash (about $2)
Mechanical Turkey Runners (two days): 24 Pet Cash (about $2)

Going a different route than most social games, PetVille is only selling rare items at normal prices today rather than cutting the prices of all of its items. Though, I bet that Mitchell won't be relaxed very long with everyone ogling him, yearning for seconds from last night's feast. Hey, leftovers is tradition too.

FrontierVille Winter is Coming Goals: Everything you need to know

Unfortunately for the more cold-blooded folk like myself, the frigid winter months will soon be upon us. You could face the wintry onslaught by saying "Bah!" to the cold or you could retreat to your warm room or office to play some FrontierVille. We'll go with the latter. Zynga is about to launch some new missions in FrontierVille to prepare us for the oncoming storm, "Winter is Coming." This quest is broken up into three Goals and we have all the details for you:

1. A Winter's Journey:
-Tend 50 Apple Trees
-Visit 20 Neighbors
-Collect 15 Snow Shoes (friend requests)

This Goal seems easy enough. You can either plant 50 Apple Trees or tend to them cumulatively, which we'll call the "I'll never get this done" route. Just buy the trees--you'll be thankful for all the food they drop.

2. Winter's A Comin':
-Clobber 10 Varmints
-Harvest 30 Potatoes
-Harvest 30 Wheat

We wouldn't go around looking for Varmints to bash in this Goal. Out of 60 crops harvested, at least 10 Groundhogs should show up, patiently awaiting that fateful whack over the cranium.

3. Creature Comforts:
-Tend 100 Animals
-Collect two Barn Daily Bonuses
-Collect 15 Straw Bales (friend requests)

Here we are: the final touches. There's honestly nothing special here other than the need for lots of Energy. So, keep visiting those friends for Energy bonuses and tending to those myriad Apple Trees for Food. Keep it up and you'll be locked, stocked and loaded for the coming hibernation (we wish).
