Seventh Generation 'Bubble Pop' game helps fund breast cancer research

Two socially conscious companies, GamesThatGive and Seventh Generation, have teamed up on a charitable Facebook game, "Bubble Pop", to help raise donations for the Breast Cancer Fund. The announcement came on the Facebook fan page of Seventh Generation, an American company that makes eco-friendly household and personal care products. Seventh Generation already donates ten percent of all its profits to various charities, but now, it has also pledged to donate ten cents for every minute people spend playing their game.

"Bubble Pop" is a "Valentine's Edition" of the "Bouncing Balls" bubble shooter at the GamesThatGive games hub. If you play there, you get to choose which organization you want to donate to, but if you specifically want to help out the Breast Cancer Fund, you need to click on the "Play to Donate" tab on the Seventh Generation Facebook fan page. At the time of this post, all the GamesThatGive titles have led to nearly $80k USD given to charities.

Speaking as a bubble shooter junkie of titles like Taito's arcade "Bust-A-Move" and Wooga's "Bubble Island" Facebook game, I find GamesThatGive's take on the genre so uninspired that it wouldn't be worth a glance without the charity element attached to it.

Moreover, there's nothing social about the game except for the presence of a highscore leaderboard keeping track of which Facebook players are the bubble-busting champions. Each high scorer gets a link to his or her profile, along with a profile photo, featured on the leaderboard. Currently, the top score of 53,390 goes to "Jennifer" of Fort Worth, Texas. But you know, it's for a good cause, the gameplay is as simple as it gets, and GamesThatGive has got itself a winning business concept here. Finally, if you also happen to have a competitive streak, Jennifer's score is certain to keep you popping bubbles for hours.
